Mometasone furoate 0.1% w/w Ointment is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of inflammatory and pruritic skin conditions which respond to external treatment with glucocorticoids, such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis). ELOCON® (mometasone furoate) Ointment, 0.1%, contains mometasone furoate, USP for dermatologic use. Mometasone furoate is a synthetic corticosteroid with antiinflammatory activity. Mometasone furoate is a white to off-white powder practically insoluble in water, slightly soluble in octanol, and Do not use mometasone furoate, USP ointment 0.1% if you are allergic to mometasone furoate or any of the ingredients in mometasone furoate, USP ointment 0.1%. Children below 6 years: Mometasone Furoate 1 mg/g Ointment is not recommended for use in children below 6 years of age due to insufficient data on safety (see section 4.8). 4.3 Contraindications Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1 or to any other corticosteroids. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using mometasone topical (Elocon)? You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to mometasone. A healthcare provider may recommend mometasone furoate ointment for people who have certain skin conditions. This prescription medicine is specifically approved to treat skin conditions such as eczema, poison ivy, and psoriasis, among others. To use mometasone cream or ointment, apply a small amount of cream or ointment to cover the affected area of skin with a thin film. To apply the lotion, place a few drops on the affected areas and massage lightly until it disappears.
