What is hydrocortisone topical? Hydrocortisone topical (for the skin) is a steroid that is used to treat inflammation and itching caused by skin conditions that respond to steroid medication. There are many brands and forms of hydrocortisone topical available. Not all brands are listed on this leaflet. Hydrocortisone topical may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. While Benadryl is generally safe, any medication can cause a reaction if your dog happens to be allergic to it. Watch for stomach issues such as diarrhea and vomiting. Also notice if your dog is less interested in eating or is having trouble breathing. Agitation or a fast-beating heart is also an issue. Call your vet if you notice any of these side effects. Sleeping pills. Many sleeping pills, including those that can be purchased over-the-counter, have a similar effect as alcohol. It is always best to avoid them, if possible.
